Charly is what happens when a sock puppet horse survives the golden age of afternoon television and then spends thirty years in a Rubbermaid bin labeled TOYS — MAYBE.

Brown fleece. A mane that has given up on volume. Googly button eyes that still expect applause. Felt nostrils that flare when you mention the word “barn.” He was part of a crew once — a whole ensemble of fleece-based optimism — and then one day the crew wasn’t a crew anymore. Just singles. We cannot confirm he ever shared a soundstage with anyone you are thinking of. We cannot deny he gets quiet when certain woolen colleagues are mentioned in the other wing of the store.
